FAQ – Your questions answered – Ecohound

Are your bags biodegradable?

No. Our new, improved bags help keep our planet litter-free and healthy! We are committed to sustainability by crafting them from 25% Oceanex plus 50 % recycled plastic waste (HDPE). This change is in compliance with the EU’s Single Use Plastic Directive – Europe’s bold move towards a greener future.

Why are your bags no longer Biodegradable?

Our bags were previously manufactured using EPI an Oxo-Biodegradable additive which has been included in the EU ban on Oxo-degradable plastics. Although Oxo-Biodegradable is fundamentally different from Oxo-Degradable they have both been classified as Oxo-degradable by the EU’s Single-use plastic (SUP) Directive which will become EU law as of July 2021.  All EU member states are required to transpose to this new national law.

As the UK has left the EU we have not yet adopted this ban however we believe this to be imminent therefore we have had to make these necessary changes to our bags.

We will of course be closely monitoring the situation and will always look to adopt the best plastic technology for our environment in the manufacturing of our waste bags.

What is Oceanex?

Oceanex is a remarkable resin supplement which contains powdered oyster shell waste from a sustainable source. Adding waste seashells means our bags can be made with less precious oil-based polymer and the replacement material is bio-renewable too!

For further information visit the Oceanex website.

Are your bags compostable?

Our 25% Oceanex  + 50 % Post Consumer Waste Recycled HDPE bags are not compostable.

We will be introducing a small range of Oceanex and Plant-based fully compostable bags in the future which will meet both European EN1342 and US ASTM D6400 standards of compostability.  Bags conforming to these standards disintegrate within 12 weeks and completely biodegrade within a 6-month time frame converting approximately 90% of waste plastic to CO2.

Are your bags scented?

Our bag range is unscented, we prefer this to avoid fragranced poop, not a great scent. We believe in making our products as friendly and sustainable to the environment as possible. That’s why we’re working on introducing an odour neutraliser into our bag range soon – so that you can keep enjoying those walks with your furry friend without any smelly distractions.

How thick are your Ecohound bags?

Our thinnest bag is still pretty thick compared to many other bags on the market today at 15 microns.  Our large flat-packed 500s boast a super sturdy 17-micron thickness, giving you and your pup peace of mind that their waste is safely contained until you reach the next poo bin!

How big are your bags?

Choose from a range of sizes to fit your pup’s unique shape and size. The Ecohound flat packed vest bags offer maximum capacity for larger breeds, while our Small Vest Rolls provide convenience for smaller pups!

What colours are your bags manufactured in?

Our Oceanex + Recycled HDPE bags feature a discrete opaque bottle green colour. For our compostable collection, we’ve chosen an ultra-bold teal blue that your dog will love!

What is your packaging made of?

Our eco-friendly packaging and roll core is made from FSC-certified sources, utilising recycled cardboard. We offer peace of mind when it comes to our planet; simply pop your cardboard into the recycling bin to help towards a more sustainable greener future!

How do we dispose of your bags?

Make sure your pup’s poop is disposed of properly! BAG IT BIN IT to keep parks, towns and cities clean.  Be sure to put the waste in the bins marked for the disposal of dog poo in your local parks or put the bags in your general waste bins at home, which have been designated for that kind of waste product. We recommend checking with the local council environmental health department if you’re not sure where to put that bagged waste – keeping our environment happy and healthy for loving dog owners everywhere.

No Quibble Guarantee

We also offer a No Quibble Guarantee so that if you are not completely satisfied with our product, then you can send them back in original condition/packaging for a refund.
