Your questions answered – Ecohound
Are your bags biodegradable?
No. Our new bags are manufactured using 20% Oceanex + 30 % Post Consumer Waste Recycled HDPE. These bags are degradable however not biodegradable. This change has been made in line with the July 2021 change in EU Law under the Single Use Plastic Directive.
Why are your bags no longer Biodegradable?
Our bags where previously manufactured using EPI an Oxo-Biodegradable additive which has been included in the EU ban of Oxo-degradable plastics. Although Oxo-Biodegradable is fundamentally different from Oxo-Degradable they have both been classified as Oxo-degradable by the EU’s Single-use plastic (SUP) Directive which will become EU law as of July 2021. All EU member states are required to transpose to this new national law.
As the UK have left the EU we have not yet adopted this ban however we believe this to be imminent therefore we have had to make these necessary changes to our bags.
We will of course be closely monitoring the situation and will always look to adopt the best plastic technology for our environment in the manufacturing of our waste bags.
What is Oceanex?
Oceanex is a remarkable resin supplement which contains powdered oyster shell waste from a sustainable source. Adding waste seashell means our bags can be made with less precious oil-based polymer and the replacement material is bio-renewable too!

Are your bags compostable?
Our 20% Oceanex + 30 % Post Consumer Waste Recycled HDPE bags are not compostable.
We will be introducing a small range of Oceanex and Plant based fully compostable bags in late 2021 which will meet both European EN1342 and US ASTM D6400 standards of compostability. Bags conforming to these standards disintegrate within 12 weeks and completely biodegrade within a 6 month time frame converting approximately 90% of waste plastic to CO2.
Are your bags scented?
Our bags range is unscented, we prefer this to avoid fragranced poop, not a great scent. We are looking into an odour neutraliser and hope to introduce this to our bags in the near future.
How thick are your Ecohound bags?
Out thinnest bag is still pretty thick compared to many other bags on the market today at 15 micron. Our large flat packed Ecohound 500’s are 17 micron in thickness
How big are your bags?
Our bags come in a variety of sizes for dogs of all shapes and sizes. Our largest bags are the flat packed Ecohound vest bags and our smallest our Ecohound Small Vest Rolls in packs of 300’s.
What colours are your bags manufactured in?
Our Oceanex + Recycled HDPE waste bags are a dark bottle green colour. After various tests we found this colour to be the least transparent of all colours tested. Our compostable range will be manufactured in a gorgeous teal blue.
What is your packaging made of?
All our packaging and roll core are made using recycled and recyclable card so please make sure these are disposed of in your cardboard recycling bin.
How do we dispose of your bags?
BAG IT BIN IT! has always been our motto. Be sure to put the waste in the bins marked for the disposal of dog poo in your local parks or put the bags in your general waste bins at home, which have been designated for that kind of waste product. If in doubt, ask your local council environmental health department.
